Prominent forehead creases, brow furrows, or eye lines (crows feet) produced by facial expression muscles can be treated by reducing the function of specific facial muscles. Botox or Dysport is injected in small amounts into facial muscles which temporarily weaken the muscles. This usually lasts for three to four months. It may take several days to take effect.
Fillers are also used to hide wrinkles and fine lines. These areas may include the smile lines, creases around the mouth and chin, and even for depressions in the skin from scarring. We can also inject fillers into the lips to make them fuller. Fillers generally last between 6 months and 1 year.
All treatments can be repeated. We ask that you not take any blood thinners, such as aspirin, advil, motrin, ibufrofen, excedrin, etc... for ten days prior to your treatment. Tylenol is fine.
Side effects may include some mild irritation at the injection site, redness, bruising, or swelling at the injection site. All typically abate within a couple of hours. Bruising can be camouflaged with standard make up.
The choice of therapy depends on the location and extent of wrinkles, desired duration, and tolerance for potential side effects. Feel free to ask one of us for more information or schedule a free consult.
